Athletes of the Meet

Our athletes of the meet

Women: Jeomi Maduka (Cornell) and Stacy Kim (Penn) are co-winners.
Men: Adam Seabrook (Cornell)

Its getting cold, and the clouds are threatening.

We will see you next year in Philadelphia at Franklin Field for the 75th Heptagonal Championship (est. 1935).

Women's 4x400 Relay

Our final event, the women's 4x400. Of note, it has dropped quite a bit in temperature the last hour or two.

On the second leg, Jesse Carlin of Penn has opened a lead, but Cornell is right behind.
Cornell takes over the lead by a step on the final exchange.

1: Cornell, 3:44.83
2: Columbia, 3:46.32 (with a big anchor)
3: Penn, 3:47.36
4: Brown, 3:50.39
5: Yale, 3:50.43
6: Princeton, 3:54.17

Cornell outlasts Princeton in the team competition.

Women's 4x800 Relay

We now only have the two women's relays remaining. Cornell leads 147 to 138. Brown is in 3rd with 81 points.

Yale, Cornell, and Harvard have opened up significant lead at the second exchange.
At the final exchange, its Cornell way in front, Yale, Harvard, and Princeton.

Harvard comes all the way back and wins in 8:56.70.
2: Cornell, 8:58.83
3: Yale, 9:00.50
4: Brown, 9:04.09
5: Princeton, 9:05.58
6: Penn

Men's 4x400 Final

The final event for the men is the 4x400

At the first exchange, its Cornell and Penn way out in front.
2nd Exchange, Cornell, Harvard, Penn.
At the bell, Adam Seabrook is attempting the TRIPLE with a 4x400 victory.

Cornell has won unofficially, but we have a flag . . . . which was overruled by the referee. All results stand.

1: Cornell, 3:13.22
2: Dartmouth, 3:13.80
3: Penn, 3:14.19
4: Princeton, 3:14.62
5: Yale, 3:14.87
6: Columbia, 3:14.87

Women's Triple Jump

Jeomi Maduka of Cornell has won as expected and adds to the lead over Princeton.

1: Jeomi Maduka, Cornell, 13.02, 42-8
2: Akilah King, Brown, 12.21
3: Kathryn Gevitz, Penn, 12.12
4: Tiffany Liu, Princeton, 11.89
5: Megan VanBuskirk, Penn, 11.79
6: Elisse Douglas, Columbia, 11.79

Maduka's mark is a meet record by a big margin (about two feet !)

Women's 3K

We have the women's 3K now on the track . . . . Princeton must score big points to keep pace with Cornell (which we expect will score 10+ in the triple jump).

We have a group of 5 up in front, including Ashley Higginson (Princeton), Lindsay Donaldson (Yale), Smita Gupta (Brown), Aeriel Emig (Cornell), and Stacy Kim (Penn) with 3 to go.

With one to go, Stacy Kim of Penn has moved into the lead by 20 meters, followed by Emig, Gupta, Donaldson, and Higginson fading.

1: Stacy Kim, Penn, 9:41.11 - completing the 1500/300 double
2: Lindsay Donaldson, Yale, 9:42.14
3: Aeriel Emig, Cornell, 9:44.89
4: Smita Gupta, Brown, 9:46.49
5: Ashley Higginson, Princeton, 9:49.59
6: Liz Costello, Princeton, 9:56.27

Cornell now leads 137 to 134. With the triple jump, it looks like Cornell might tie the Penn men for 7 consecutive titles.

Men's Scores

With all events scored in the men except for the relays and the discus (we have not reported the HJ, but it is scored - Garrett Huyler of Cornell has won).

Cornell, 183
Princeton, 108
Yale, 70
Dartmouth, 63
Penn, 61
Brown, 48
Harvard, 34
Columbia, 22

Cornell has broken the record set by Princeton in 1999 for overall team score (although this only includes those years with the existing scoring system).

Men's 5000 Final

We have a virtual road race in the 5K, with a heat over 20 folks.

With 3200 to go, we have a huge chase group, but Kevin Treadway of Dartmouth leads by about a gap of 10m.

The peloton has absorbed Treadway with 7 to go. James O'Toole of Princeton leads the group.

1600 to go, and Sage Canaday moves to the front with Chenoweth of Harvard in 2nd. Canaday is attempting a 5K/10K double. We now have a distinct front group of Canaday, Nightengale of Princeton, Chenoweth, Harry Norton of Dartmouth, and Zach Hine of Cornell.

Bell lap, Chenoweth and Nightengale are alone in front.

1: David Nightengale, Princeton, 14:28.55
2: Dan Chenowith, Harvard, 14:31.16
3: Harry Norton, Dartmouth, 14:38.46
4: Zach Hine, Cornell, 14:40.83
5: Duriel Hardy, Brown, 14:43.15
6: Oliver Townsend, 14:44.97

Men's Combined Conclusion - 1500

Kyle Calvo, Mike Hall, and Tim Wunderlich are separated by only 13 points. This will make for very important 1500 meter run to crown the champion. Wunderlich is in the lead after an excellent javelin throw.

Mike Hall runs a courageous 1500, but does not gap Wunderlich by enough distance.

1: Tim Wunderlich, Dartmouth, 6879
2: Mike Hall, Penn, 6874
3: Kyle Calvo, Penn, 6802
4: Brodie Lewis, Harvard, 6565
5: Steve Slovenski, Princeton, 6149
6: Nicholas Weir, Dartmouth, 6030

Women's 200 Final

Moving to the women's furlong event . . . . Shaunee Morgan of Penn is our top seed.

Jeomi Maduka just outlasts the field (they were charging fast) in 24.47

2: Nicole Burns, Brown, 24.63
3: Shaunee Morgan, Penn, 24.74
4: Akilah King, Brown, 24.87
5: Favia Merritt, Harvard, 24.96
6: Danielle Mirabal, Harvard, 25.03

This creates a tie in the women's standings. We have a very strong event for Princeton (the 3K) and one for Cornell (Triple Jump). Princeton might have a better 4x800, but Cornell has a better 4x400. This will be close.
